Fefig Bulletin No. 59 – November 2024

by | Dec. 9, 2024

We’d like to share with you the latest news and achievements from November.
Check out this month's highlights:

Serra da Capivara Campus – PI

The Serra da Capivara region, located in the semi-arid zone of Piauí, encompasses 18 municipalities. In 2024, seven of these municipalities entered into a partnership with the Fefig Institute to implement the Circuito 360 Literacy Program: São Raimundo Nonato, Bonfim do Piauí, Caracol, Várzea Branca, São Lourenço, Fartura, and São Braz.

This first year of collaboration already points to a promising future, with significant progress and challenges identified.

On November 5, our superintendent, Bartholomeu Gomes, attended a meeting of the Steering Committee in São Raimundo Nonato, alongside municipal coordinators and partner secretaries. The meeting featured an exchange of experiences, a celebration of progress in promoting reading, and strategic alignment for 2025.

Meeting with the Director of ICMBio

In a productive meeting, Bartholomeu Gomes and technical officer Ednalda Assis met with Dr. Marrian Rodrigues, Head of the Serra da Capivara National Park/ICMBio, to take stock of the partnership to date and discuss ways to further strengthen the positive impact that the partnership with the FEFIG Institute—through the implementation of the Literacy Management Program—has already been having on the region.

Dr. Marrian expressed great enthusiasm and offered to help identify additional municipalities for the hub by 2025, while also supporting us in ensuring continuity in municipalities where there will be a change in local political leadership.

Commitment to the Continuity of Public Policies

Taking advantage of his in-person visit to the center, our superintendent had the opportunity to meet with political leaders from two municipalities where there will be a change in mayors. In the municipality of São Raimundo Nonato, we had the opportunity to speak with Professor Edméia, the future secretary of education. This meeting was arranged by the current secretary, Professor Nailer, to whom we extend our deepest respect and gratitude for her outstanding work and commitment to the continuity of successful public policies. In subsequent contacts with AT, the future secretary has already expressed interest in maintaining the partnership through 2025.
We also had a meeting with the future Secretary of Education for the municipality of Coronel José Dias, an initiative already coordinated by Dr. Marian. It was a very positive moment for establishing new partnerships for the year 2025.

Visit to the Municipality of Bonfim do Piauí

Our superintendent and technical officer Ednalda Assis visited the municipality of Bonfim do Piauí; we spoke with the municipal coordinator and visited a school. We attempted to speak with the Municipal Secretary to explore the possibility of evaluating how 5th-grade classes are functioning with a multi-subject teacher. The teachers working this school year are part-time, which has been hindering the implementation of some strategies suggested for improving the program.
