Sharing Literacy Practices in Santa Catarina
The Fefig Institute was in Florianópolis on December 4 and 5. In addition to visiting the municipalities of Águas Mornas and Anitápolis, our Executive Superintendent attended the year-end closing ceremony for the Literacy Management Project alongside representatives from the 15 partner municipalities. “We had presentations by teachers, administrators, and students, showcasing the results we have achieved in children’s literacy. It was a moment of great emotion and celebration!” – Bartholomeu Silva.

Meeting with municipalities in the Serra da Capivara region (Piauí)
Our technical officer, Ednalda Assis, traveled to São Raimundo Nonato (PI) to present a detailed overview of the Literacy Management Program to nine state education secretaries from the region who have expressed interest in implementing the program in 2024.
Eight of them have expressed formal interest, and we are now in the process of signing the contract. The program is expected to begin as early as February or March and will benefit approximately 6,000 children.
Education Partners: Municipal Networks Program Agreement
Luiz Fernando Figueiredo, president of the Fefig Institute, and our Executive Superintendent Bartholomeu Silva attended the closing ceremony for the 2023 year of the Parceiros da Educação Municipal Network Program. Our representatives met with the mayors and secretaries of education from Ituverava and Santo André—networks with which we partner—to review the year 2023.
Although we still have a lot of work to do, we have already seen steady progress in both school systems, particularly in the significant increase in the number of literate students and the reduction in the age-grade gap.

Board of Directors Approves Strategic Plan

Our board members gathered at our headquarters on December 18 for the last meeting of the year. During the meeting, they reviewed the Board’s activities in 2023, aligned expectations for the coming period, and approved the Institute’s Strategic Plan for 2024.
The Institute’s Strategic Plan has been approved, and we have identified several key priorities for strengthening our institution and expanding our capabilities in implementation, communication, and fundraising.
Delivery of eyeglasses in Rio Grande do Norte
Our Executive Director was in São Gonçalo do Amarante for the year-end closing event of the Literacy Management Program, which was attended by representatives from our nine partner municipalities. On that occasion, together with our partner, the NGO Renovatio, we distributed approximately 750 pairs of glasses to children who were diagnosed as needing them through the Vision at School Project.
